People and Groundwater: A Dialectic Poem

मनुष्य  People

काय तुझं नाव कोण तुझे गांव, शोधण्यासाठी तुला घातलाय आम्ही जमिनीवर घांव
[What is your name? Where are you from? We have stabbed the ground in search for you]
अदृश्य तू, अस्पष्ट तू भेटशील तरी कुठे मला जरा सांगशील का तू
[You are invisible and elusive, tell me where we should look for you]
स्वच्छ तू अन निर्मळ ही तू जणमाणसांची भागवीस तहान तू
[You are clean, you are pure, you quench the thirst of every soul]
तुझ्यावीणा आमचे पिक च येईना खोलवर बोअर घेऊन पण तू दिसेना
[Without you our crops fail to grow, even after digging deep boreholes you do not show]

काय तुझं नाव कोण तुझे गांव शोधण्यासाठी तुला घातलाय आम्ही जमिनीवर घांव || १ ||
[What is your name? Where are you from? We have stabbed the ground in search of you]
तुझ्यावीणा जमेना आम्हांस शेती, नापीक झालीया आमची माती
[Without you we cannot cultivate, and our soil too has become infertile]
शेतीत आता काही पपके ना, सावकाराचे कजम काही केल्या फिटे ना
[Nothing grows on our farmlands now and we are just not able to repay our loans]
काय करू मित्रा आत्महत्या शिवाय आम्हांस दुसरा पर्यायच दिसेना
[We are left with no choice but to end our lives]

काय तुझं नाव कोण तुझे गांव शोधण्यासाठी तुला घातलाय आम्ही जमिनीवर घांव || २ ||
[What is your name? Where are you from? We have stabbed the ground in search of you]
तुझ्यावीणा आलीये आमच्यावर तिसऱ्या महायुद्धाची वेळ
[Without you we are on the brink of the third world war]
अंटार्कटिका चा बर्फ वितळवण्याचा मांडलाय आम्ही खेळ
[We are melting the glaciers of Antarctica like never before]
फिरवलेत नारळ अन केलेत नवस, तरी तू भेटेना एकही दिवस
[We prayed to our Lord to seek blessings in your form, yet we are unable to meet you]

काय तुझं नाव कोण तुझे गांव शोधण्यासाठी तुला घातलाय आम्ही जमिनीवर घांव || ३ ||
[What is your name? Where are you from? We have stabbed the ground in search of you]
कुठे रुसून बसलायस मित्रा आता तरी सांग शोधण्यासाठी तुला, केले आम्ही प्रयत्न अथांग
[Weary and tired from our relentless search for you, please guide us my friend where we should find you]

भूजल  Groundwater

स्वच्छ मी अन निर्मळ मी, भूमातेच्या उदरांत राहतो मी
[Clean and pure is my form, I live beneath the ground]
डोंगरात मी, दगडांत मी, खडकातील चिरा-भेगा व छिद्रांत भेटतो मी
[I can be found in the mountains and openings of rocks]
भूजल असे माझं नाव
[Groundwater is my name]

भूगर्भ आहे माझें गांव || १ ||
[Earth’s sub surface is my place]
माझी केलीये तूच अवहेलना, झालीय आता माझी च दैना
[You always ill-treated me; I now reside in a dire state]
शोधण्यासाठी मला, घातलास तू जमिनीवर घांव
[You kept stabbing the ground in search of me]

भूमातेची चाळण करुणही थकला नाहीसं तू राव || २ ||
[Turning the land into a sieve, you never tired out]
निष्ठुर तू अन निर्दयी ही तू, अती उपसा करतांना कधी केलीयस का माझी कीव?
[You are cruel and heartless, exploiting me relentlessly without mercy]
हावरटपणा मुळे तुमच्या झालीया माझी अशी दैना
[Your greed has put me in a dire state]

आणी म्हणूनच नदी, नाले, विहारींना पाणी च मिळेना || ३ ||
[And so the rivers and lakes run dry]
भेटायचे असल्यास मला, तुम्हांस सांगतो एक कानमंत्र, समजून घ्या जरा भूजलपवज्ञानाचे तंत्र
[Listen carefully the mantra to meet me is to try and understand the science of groundwater]
हावरटपणा जरा कमी करा अन पावसाचे पाणी जमिनीत मुरवा
[Let go of your greed, and let the rainwater seep in the ground to heal me]
डोंगरमाथ्यावर चरा करा, पिक-पाण्याचे नियोजन करा
[Increase water conservation efforts by digging trenches on hillocks and adopt crop water budgeting]

विंधनविहारींवर निर्बंध ठेवा, पंप क्षमता मर्यादित करा || ४ ||
[Refrain from rampant borewell digging and use of high-capacity pump sets for groundwater extraction]
लोकसहभागीय भूजल व्यवस्थापन हाच माझा मंत्र, समजूनघ्या मित्रांनो  जरा तुम्ही भूजलविज्ञानाचे  तंत्र
[Embrace participatory groundwater management as my mantra and try to understand the science of groundwater]
